Two villas in one town

Dokumentary, 26 minutes

The name of the architect Adolf Loos is well known to the Czech specialized public well known. Most inhabitants of Prague at once remember the František and Milady Müller villa in Prague - Střešovice, that Adolf Loos built between 1928 and 1930. But less of them know that there is another building of this type in Prague - even if more modest - a villa he built from 1931 to 1932 (with the collaboration of Karel Lhota) for JUDr. Josef Winternitz in Smíchov.

What is the actual state of these buildings, what was or is the progress of reconstruction and what is their planned use in the future is the subject of this film.

On one side the reconstruction, to is original look (including the garden and furniture), of the Müller villa financially ensured and guaranteed by the City of Prague. On the other side the alternative use of the Winternitz villa (exposition of young artists, artistic happenings in the devastated space of modern architecture) during its reconstruction financed by private owners.

The aim of this project is to present Adolf Loos, his Prague villas in a wider context, then that of architecture. The shooting took place during the time of the reconstruction of the Müller villa and after its opening with actors in period costumes to approach the atmosphere of the villa in times when it was not only a cold museum, but served as a luxury habitation. The Winternitz villa is caught in the time of expositions and happenings of young Prague artists and during the reconstruction. The film also brings interviews with the participating architects, the director of the Museum of the Prague City, the owners of the Winternitz villa and others.
